Behind the scenes

The Izzytab story: from an idea to the Indiegogo campaign

By The Izzytab team · 2 June 2026 · 5 min read

Every company likes to tell itself a heroic origin story. Ours is more ordinary, and that is just as well: it starts with a cupboard under a sink, crammed with half-empty bottles, each for one purpose, each promising its own revolution. The realisation was painfully obvious: we were buying, transporting and storing mostly water and plastic, for a few grams of useful matter. Izzytab was born of that irritation, and of the conviction that we could do markedly better without sacrificing any effectiveness.

The starting hunch

The idea fitted in one sentence: what if we stopped selling water? What if we concentrated the active matter into a tablet that the customer dissolves at home, in a bottle they keep, with water from their own tap? The gesture became clear, the footprint got lighter, and the cupboard emptied out.

But a good hunch does not make a good product. It had to be tested against reality: finding formulas that were both effective and restrained, obtaining a serious certification, designing a durable, bio-based bottle, choosing the right scents. Every stage was an opportunity to say no to easy options: no to misleading claims, no to a "plastic-free" that would have been false, no to overpowering synthetic fragrances. What we did not want defined Izzytab as much as what we did.

The choices that commit us

Three decisions structure the project, and we own them publicly.

Transparency before marketing. We tell the truth about our materials, including when it is modest: our bottles are made of a polyethylene of plant origin, not "plastic-free". Telling the truth is a constraint we chose.

Certification rather than self-proclamation. We opted for an independent standard, Ecocert's Ecodetergent, verified by a third party, rather than a green leaf printed on a bottle.

Local rather than distant. We manufacture in France, in contact with a soap-making craft, for quality, for jobs and for environmental coherence.

These choices cost more and take longer. They are the reason the project exists.

Why Indiegogo

Going from a fine idea to well-stocked shelves takes resources: tooling, first production runs, stock, logistics. Rather than looking first for large funding that would have diluted the project, we chose crowdfunding, with a campaign on Indiegogo.

That choice means more than money. A crowdfunding campaign is a way of checking that a need exists, of gathering a first community, and of building with it. The early backers are not simply customers: they are de facto co-founders, who make production possible and to whom we owe an account. Contributing means allowing Izzytab to exist at scale, and joining an adventure at its very beginning.

And now

What comes next is something you write with us: through your contributions, your feedback, your ideas for scents and improvements. We have in fact set aside a space on the shop for gathering your suggestions, because an everyday product improves through contact with the people who actually use it.

Cleaning has never been so light. That is not only a slogan about the weight of a tablet. It is the lightening of everything around it that served no purpose: the water hauled about, the bottles thrown away, the hollow promises. Izzytab is just beginning, and the best is still to be built.
